Rotax Pro Tour Rd 4 – Albury
Round 4 of the Rotax Pro Tour was held at the Albury – Wodonga Kart Club in VIC, on April 28 – 29th.
Tony Kart driver Hamish Leighton was back to his winning ways in DD2 Masters by winning both the pre-final and final using his Tony Kart Krypton KSX chassis. His results have put in back into 3rd position in the championship.
In Junior MAX, NSW Tony Kart driver Andrew Kahl was very fast all weekend. He qualified on pole position and won heat 2 and the pre final. Looking certain for victory in the final, Andrew mad a slight driving error which pushed him back to 10th place at the start of the race. He did well to recover to finish in 5th position. He has maintained his 3rd place in the championship.
In Rotax Heavy, Karting Worlds Adam Hunter was the man to catch all weekend. He also qualified in pole position and was up the front all weekend with a win in heat 2. After getting a good start Adam was in the lead when a speed sensor bracket broke and went under his chassis causing the kart to understeer off the race track and stalling his engine resulting in a DNF.
Rotax Light had Tony Kart Australia driver Joel Smith qualify in 10th position and with very consistent heat finishes started on grid 4 for the final. After a not so good start, Joel set his sights on the 3rd place kart and after 25 laps finally caught him. On the last lap Joel made a pass into 3rd position only to be forced off the race track where he would recover to finsh in 4th postion.
Rotax Over 40s was a Tony Kart dominatation with Tony Kart drivers, Shane Karandrews and Peter Jackman finishing 1st and 2nd by over 5 seconds!. Other Tony Kart driver Mark Poole made a good comeback from a early collision to finish 4th with the fastest lap of the race.
