During the preliminary stages of the event Dreezen’s team mate Marco Ardigo claimed the pole position, stopping the best time of 41.6 seconds. Ardigo then continued to claim all 3 heat wins before taking the lead in the preliminary final. During the first lap, contact was made by David Fore (CRG-Maxter) during a wayward overtaking manouver. Despite starting at the rear of the 34 kart field Marco made excellent progress to recover to 5th position while also completing the fastest lap, 2 tenths clear of his rivals.

“It was a really exciting final. In the first rounds I had to drive very precisely and had to stay concentrated since I had no gap over the drivers at the top positions, so even a small mistake could mean to lose them for the whole race. That’s why I took my time. After half of the race I was really fast, the chassis set-up was perfect and I was able to perform good brakings, moreover over the fast paths I was also able to gain time. Right then I decided to attack. 
I overtook my rivals at hard braking points so I did not lose time and did not allow them to respond. Once I found myself leader of the race I was calm and the kart went fast, I did not have technical problems at all, thus I could perform a wonderful win. I am also happy since I saw my whole team rejoicing for my success”.

“I regret since I was leading the race since the qualifying rounds, then I won and in the thick of it I’ve been put out.
However we have many things to be satisfied with. We performed a very good work with the engines, the chassis perfectly respond and anything we set out put us even further, this makes me look ahead positively at the work  we still have to do. In the final I enjoyed a lot, I had a fast kart and I did my best until the end, I was fast and was able to gain some positions, if only the leading drivers fought a little…. maybe I could have got on up the podium.”

On a very hot weekend, it started off well for Tony Kart with Hamish Leighton in DD2 masters. Round 1 winner Hamish qualified on 2nd position only 1 tenth behind pole. With a little bit of fine tuning after qualifying, Hamish went on to dominate every heat even winning heat 2 & 3 by over 2.5 seconds! and with his Krypton KSX chassis getting faster as the races went on, he went into the pre final and final with great confidence where he again dominated both finals by 4 seconds!!.

Following the Round 2 of the Rotax Pro Tour at Todd Road, Tony Kart drivers Todd Davey in Rotax Heavy and Andrew Kahl in Junior Rotax lead their respective classes. Both Tony Kart drivers have collected a good points haul from the Victorian round to head the points table. “Conservative driving with an eye on the championship, not a single race win is what my strategy is. so far this has paid off” said Kahl. “This is my first year in Junior Rotax and I have a lot to learn. You carry some knowledge from the non-performance classes, but it’s a big step-up in complexity and driver competitiveness in the Rotax class.

 Both Kahl and Davey are from the Karting World team based in Sydney.

“We had a difficult weekend at Todd Road” Kahl said. “I knew it would to be tough going into the heartland of Victorian Karting. It was my first ever race at the track, and I was more than happy to come home with some good points that put me on top of the championship.”

 ”In Friday Practice we lost our way with the kart set-up. We went down a set-up direction that did not work and ended the day 0.6sec off our own pace! Saturday morning carby sesion was our only chance get something working, and credit to my team, we headed in the right direction. I was able to drive the kart off the corner and my times were looking ok. We headed into Q1 with one more tweek, and had a reasonable session, but not fast enough to make the best of the fresh rubber. The team made one more change for Q2, and it was on rails. The kart was fast and I was able to set some good times in Q2. Unfortunatley a slower kart drove up the back of me after a pass and took one lap away from me in the closing moments of Q2. However 8th was good enough with a fast kart and we were quite happy.”

 ”The heats on Saturday went well with top 5 finishes and a few fastest laps. I just tried to keep out of trouble the whole day, and it worked. The heat results, were good enough for row 2 on the grid going into the pre-final on Sunday. The Prefinal on Sunday morning was hot and the grip on the track was up, but not excessive and I put it on 4th on the grid for the final. The final could have been better, I had enough speed in the set-up to keep with the lead pack, but chose not to attack and hurt my championship. A 6th place finish in the final was a solid result and I’m looking forward to the Victorian Open at Geelong.”

Also in Junior Max, new Tony Kart driver Mitch Wilson had a tough weekend. After not getting the best run in qualifying and being accidently involved in incidents through the heats, Mitch showed that he had speed capable of running at the front of the field but starting out of grid 27 in the final, he had an unfortunate coming together with another kart while making his way forward.

The Tony Kart Rotax Development Squad drivers from Queensland also showed much speed throughout the weekend even though it was a first for most racing at the Todd Rd circuit.

 In Rotax Over 40′s Tony Kart pilots Shane Karandrews and Mark Poole finished 1st and 3rd in the final. With not only these 2 drivers but all other Tony Kart drivers in the field doing very competitive laptimes all weekend, proved how easy the karts are to setup and drive fast.

Rotax Heavy sees NSW driver Todd Davey leading the championship after 2 rounds. Todd had an up and down weekend but manage to finish in 7th place in the final to help his points haul in the championship.

Another Rotax heavy driver that had a very good weekend up untill the final was Karting World’s Adam Hunter who consistently ran in the top 7 all weekend in his Tony Kart Krypton KSX. He was involved in an accident in the final where he was an innocent victim of another kart veering across the race track and crashing into him ending his race meeting.

Even with these rather strong results Tony Kart have dropped to second in the manufacturers cup but are determined to turn this around at the next Rotax points round.

With weather playing a big part in the weekend the Tony Kart brand remained at the front of most classes.

In Midgets, West Australian driver Brock Kenny qualified in pole position in the damp conditions with Mildura driver Jacob Dowson in his Tony Kart qualifying in 2nd position. During the heats Brock finished 1st putting him on pole position for the pre-final where after a very close battle he finished in 2nd place. The final was an intense battle between 2 Tony Kart drivers in Brock Kenny and Cooper Murray, where both drivers left the field behind for most of the race untill near the end where both drivers started to fight for victory, which allowed the rest of the field to catch up. But at the end it was Tony Kart driver Cooper Murray who was victorious with Brock Kenny finishing a fighting 4th.

In the highly sort after Clubman Light class it was a dominate performance by Tony Kart driver Aidan Wright aboard his Tony Kart Racer ST V2. Aidan qualified pole position in both sessions and won the first heat, was 2nd in the 2nd heat after contact while leading, won the pre-final and final. This was a perfect weekend and also a maiden championship for Aidan. In the final Rocco Ventra came through from 8th position to claim 4th. Another Tony Kart driver to perform very well all weekend was Julian Lunetta who qualified 3rd and started the pre-final off 2nd alongside Aidan. Unfortunately Julian finished in 13th in the final after claiming victory in heat 2.

Tony Kart driver Aidan Wright also raced in the Leopard Light class for the first time at SA and after claiming pole position and a 2nd heat win aboard his Tony Kart Racer EVRR, he engaged in weekend long battle with Cian Fothergill, with Aidan finishing a close 2nd in the final.

In other classes, Lee Mitchener finshed 2nd in Leopard Heavy aboard his Racer EVRR, Brodie Tilbrook took 4th in Junior Clubman, Chris Corbett was 4th in Junior Max and in Clubman Super Heavy Josh Herne ended the weekend in 4th position.

Tony Kart was well represented in all classes at the Pro Tour, also gaining many excellent results and victories.

In Rotax Super Heavy it was Bruce Otter who was victorious in all heats, pre-final & final in his Racer EVRR, followed by Greg Williams in his Tony Kart Krypton KSX in 2nd place.

Rotax Light was the biggest field with 28 entries and qualifying on pole position was Michael Stewart in his Racer EVRR who would eventually cross the line in 4th place in the final with another Tony Kart pilot Jackson Delemont in 5th place. Tony Kart Australia driver Joel Smith had a very up and down weekend but managed to salavge 8th place at the end of the final and gain some valuable points for the overall championship.

Rotax Heavy had Tony Kart driver Todd Davey finished a well earned 3rd place along with equal fastest lap of the final.

In Rotax DD2 Mitchell bink finished in 3rd place in the final with Travis Millar finishing in 8th place while Tony Kart and DD2 debutant Steven Scoble finished in 11th place.

In DD2 Masters Hamish Leighton took victory in the final in his very first attempt at DD2 racing. Hamish had a very good weekend by qualifying on pole position and winning the final and having fastest laptime of the final race! 3rd position was gained by Tony Kart pilot Stephen Hampson.

After being involved in a first corner incident in Final 1 causing a DNF, Aidan Wright came from the back of the field to win Final 2 in the KF1 class, also setting fastest laptime. Grant Smith finished in 5th position which unfortunately was not enough to claim 3rd position in the championship, and Joel Smith finished in 11th after early race contact forcing him to last position a long way behind the field.

After a very up and down year of the Australian CIK Championships, Tony Kart Australia drivers and team members achieved the following results:
